With the coming and going of the largest powerball jackpot on record I thought about what would really happen if I were to win. You know what would happen? I'd give it all away because I wouldn't know what to do with that much money. There is a course I taught and one of the ideas was that if we don't see ourselves in a different light then any changes we make are likely to not stick because we will do things to bring us back to where we were!
I wanted to kiss the guy and beat him all at once. So, I thought: "Well there's the excuse and the cure" the thing he left out was the process. How do you go about changing and stop undermining yourself as a writer? The first is to take a leap and get published. Finish your book. Finish it and send it in. Write the letter of inquiry. Write the title page. Write about yourself as the author as if you are the wittest, funniest and smartest author since Ernest Hemingway or Shakespeare or e.e. cummings. Just write and keep writing. No one succeeded on their first try or second or third but only have hard work and perservence. We seem to fall into the "magical thinking" mode and give up too soon. I wonder how many great novels are out there all because someone decided their writing wasn't good enough or didn't submit it "just one more time."?
I created this blog and a Facebook page for just this purpose. We are not to let each other give up. So don't give up. I haven't and won't. I will keep going....if fear doesn't grasp my beating heart with it's cold, harsh hands, what a jerk! Have a great day!
